ONE STEP AT A TIME

ONE STEP AT A TIME

A Poem by Betty Hermelee
"

Life"s longings

"

ONE STEP AT A TIME

Often my heart cries out in frustration

yet we still retain what little desire lingers

after 40 years of marriage eagerness flies

like a bird migrating to another place

we are in another place

sweet hugs and soft kisses endure and we treasure those moments

When we met, we failed to cease the urge to touch each other

with obsession

dancing in the kitchen, strolling in the woods, swimming in the ocean

or a deep sensual plunge, tucked up under our covers in pure ecstasy

We murmured the words “ I love you” at whim, and it felt warm

Our intimacy sustained for many fine years

Now, the flames fade, our fervor dwindles

We are like birds who leave the nest

And fly to another venue

A place of warmth and tender memories

This is a poem displaying full acceptance of love and its different footsteps - they that set out the rules for the entirity of the music. Love surely endures time whereas presumptous passion can fade into a safe and contented place, full of memories to call upon when moments arrive to tickle the senses - as should be!

A superb and beautiful finish - not to your love, but your poem,

' We are like birds who leave the nest
And fly to another venue
A place of warmth and tender memories'

NB: not apart but still together. Kudos absolute.

So true it is that although love may be blind in some ways it is marriage that makes us blind in others. A wonderful and most truthful write. Nicely done

My pleasure Betty
Thank you so much, dear Betty for posting this wonderful poem full of such deep and meaningful reflections.

Ecclesiastes 3, The Holy Bible says:
"To every thing there is a season, and a time to every purpose under the heaven"

Every phase in life is passing and youth is fleeting too. Its joys are like ephemeral sea waves, the brief blooming of a rose, the passing of a heady season. Yet, where we are going is also not without its wonders. Its a place of untold warmth, undying bonds, eternal togetherness and gratitude in shared memoriies.

Ageing is a priviledge not all are given. Those of us who'll have it are so truly blessed! Especially with a loyal, loving, long time companion beside us.
