DRENCHED

DRENCHED

A Poem by Betty Hermelee
"

terrifying adventure

"

She drags herself tirelessly

heavy low clouds

intermittent downpours

blur her vision

in the distance she notes a building

perhaps a safe place

As she approaches

a sigh of relief on her worn face

must meet her lover soon

she steps inside a domed structure

flops down, weight of her body

Soaked to the bone

her wet shawl transforms into a soft pillow

she must rest now

a long trek ahead

to meet her lover

This highly visual tale made me feel concern for the poor soul as she sought shelter. It is my hope that she'll soon feel a warm embrace and flickering fire. Oh, and dry clothes.

I am still admiring of how you can just create a scene with your words… if you ask me i think you don’t even need to use an image to show the looks, your words makes it way more alive! I can see how she is walking, and how she stands… such a strong atmosphere to create!

A beautifully somber and evocative piece. There’s such quiet strength in her exhaustion, and a tender resilience beneath the storm. The imagery of rain, weariness, and longing captures both the ache and the hope of love’s journey.

I sure hope this guy (or girl)is worth it. The impression is that the young lady has walked long and steadily through foul weather to make this rendezvous. We are relieved when she finds temporary shelter, but dismayed when we find she has a long haul yet to go. The things we do for love.

Hii Betty,

What a wonderfully written poem about a woman determination and love even under the circumstances. Its unbelievable what we do for love. Even ignoring the downpour of the rain just to be embraced by lover.

Thanks for sharing

A woman with a purpose and determination. Undaunted by the conditions, the journey has a prize at its ending. Descriptive and atmospheric dear Betty. You paint the scene with your fine words.

A tragedy that joins the realm of outside looking in, wanting to find answers, needing know how to reach love. Plus.. does that love mean? You really have wrapped letters within beautifully sad words, created maybe into the definite - a deeply needed and ultimate finish. An understandable desire.
