Chapter 18  A FIRST LOOK

After my mention of the free ride

Christine reveals a strange look into my eyes

That something is  brewing

I laugh under my breath and proceed to

Call the taxi driver whose name is Edward

According to the card  he handed me

I pay no attention to Christine’s behavior

We wait patiently in front of the hotel

Jabbering about this and that

Before we are aware, the taxi pulls up to the curb

In front of the hotel

Edward rolls down his window to greet me

We both climb in sitting in the back seat

Edward greets us with a smile and requests a destination

I inform him of an address of a flat that Christine seems suitable

While we drive, Edward politely requests my name

I pause, whether to reveal, then blurt our Lilly

I see him smile in the rear-view mirror

I blush, why I will never know

We pass by many quaint neighborhoods

All of them seem lovely

At long last Edward stops in front of a red brick building

I inquire whether he would wait for us, as we have more to view

He pleasantly agrees

We exit the cab and Christine reveals information regarding the flat we are about to see

The exterior appears attractive, about six stories with lift

She reveals that the flat overlooks a small garden

Those last few words leave me with some excitement

We arrive at the flat

Christine jiggles the keys and the door opens

My first impression is an optimistic one

T’s sunny and a good amount of windows

A tear drops to my cheek, in delight

Chapter 19 DECISIONS

I walk through the rest of the flat with a broad smile on my face, no tears now

Every room is satisfactory, clean and plenty of space

The bedroom is large enough for me and my baby who shall sleep next to me in a cradle

I inquire to Christine whether I should see more flats?

She replies that it is up to me

I quite like this one, plenty of room for two

I pause for a moment and think back to a family of three

It rips through my heart that Henry is not with us

I cannot, however, dwell on this, tis not worthy of me to act like this

I must decide whether to look further

My soul informs me that if I fancy this one, then no more viewing

I prefer to stay a bit  longer to assure myself that this flat is

A respectable choice

I wander around to imagine myself and my baby in this flat

The more I roam around the more I appreciate it

T’s the final decision

I sense the joy in my heart

At long last I have found a flat that pleases me

There are a few chores for me to fabricate the flat to my exact taste

I believe that shall be an adventure

Christine and I climb back into the cab

Where Edward is awaiting our departure

Christine and I chat on the way home

Regarding the flat and what needs to be done to create a beautiful space for the two of us

As I chat, I suddenly realize I must have another

Appointment with the doctor

So much to do

So much to live for

I really enjoyed how this piece balances reflection, hope, and subtle emotional depth. The narrator’s journey through the flat feels intimate and immediate, with small details, the cab ride, sunlight in the rooms, imagining life with her baby--making it vivid.

There’s a gentle optimism here that’s very moving, and I appreciate how past loss is acknowledged without overshadowing joy.

The lyrical quality makes the story feel both personal and poetic.

What a saga this is becoming, your words beckon, Betty! My belief is that you see yourself in your heroine, feel her emotions, delve into a romance that is in self, an adventure! Many women might feel like this, dabbling a splash under the warmest water! Where others play games, you are a true romantic, my friend!

Loved this chapter, dear Betty. She's courageous to go on with live, do things that need doing for herself and her baby. So spirited. Yet what I adored about it is the flat search and finding the perfect home. I love looking at new places, doing up a new place, turning it into a comfy space of my own. It thrills me, excites me so much. All that you wrote here and it made this such an enjoyable read for me.
