BLUE HOLIDAYS

BLUE HOLIDAYS

Blue Holidays

And ts not the color blue, but perhaps

many of us are dispirited over Christmas and New Years

so many pretexts for this behavior

loneliness, a disbeliever, a distaste for frolic, rejection

T’s not the money, nor the pride

yet something is amiss which drives us to a place of darkness

and all around us many are reveling, the taste of merriment

a gloom may remain for weeks

retreat to a safe place where one can hide from the joviality

exclusion is a foreign word

often it ensues and not intended

nevertheless insulting

Thus, for all of us who try to escape this mirth

let us be aware that none is at fault

ts buried deep in our souls

like a cave of sorts

and when the merrymaking ends

we slip away quietly to our habitual existence

I too have noted this tendency. I believe it is more prevalent in older people who can recall people who were part if of previous Christmases who are no longer with us. Of course, it could also mean those who miss previous times generally.

I think loneliness a big part of it, thanks John for a heartfelt review and Happy New Year!

I accidentally read the news yesterday and it said nearly a million adults would spend christmas alone! That's from a country of less than six million!
Now I've been a bit of a christmas humbug in my time, but thats a lot of christmas crackers going unpulled!
Those numbers come from the Salvation army, but the most surprising aspect of them was the breakdown in ages. For the first time ever the age group of 25-34 beat the 65+ age group to first place and you have to wonder what's going on when its people at the prime of life who will be alone.
And yes, as an ex bah humbug I know there is a difference between being lonely and alone, but surely that amount of people cant be accidental.
Whether it be living away from home or home not being a happy place or just liking a quiet life, may everyone get the christmas they wish for and a happy new year.

I tried to enjoy every new day. My want got a puppy. Somehow the puppy is my responsibility. A pitbull/ huskie. Five months old. I am not a fan of the holidays. Here in the USA. Just a reason for big business to make money. I hope you are doing well and Merry Christmas dear Betty.
