A PLEASURABLE DREAM

I awaken to a gleeful dream

In fact, I would like to return to slumber

If I could

The dream was about Henry and me

He suddenly recovered from his amnesia

And recognized me with a broad smile

Admittedly he was very tired and still in some pain

However, he kissed me on my cheek and I displayed my ring and he recalled it straight away

We hugged and smooched as much as he was able

And continued to converse about the present and the future

I then surprised him about the baby

He shed tears of joy

And asked many questions about my care and where to live

I mentioned that I am looking for an apartment for all of us in London, how delightful this city appears to be and that my doctor is here

He seemed quite animated, yet a bit concerned about my health

I clarified that I must see my doctor soon for a checkup

He held his hand in mine and revealed that he shall be dismissed very soon

If only that marvelous dream was true

I would be in heaven

It hurts my heart to think of reality

And the drudgery of seeking a flat to be alone

Raising my child

I must clothe myself to be ready for Christine and the flat hunting

We settle with some hot tea and scones before we leave

I recount my dream to Christine, she understands my sorrow

Tears well up as I sip my tea

T’s part of grieving as Christine nods her head

She imparts that we must be leaving

I inform her about the free ride with the cab driver who seems to fancy me or just pities me

I show her his card, she is fine with this idea

Betty, a wonderful poem. Sad at times perhaps. But our dreams are what hold us together, without them, we would fall apart.

This appears to be a part of the poet's Bridge stories. The young lady has a dream in which her wounded soldier awakens from his war related amnesia. There is a reunion of sorts in which she tells him about her situation, especially about the baby. He is overjoyed, but also concerned about her living situation. She is also concerned about that problem, but has some help in that her friend Christine is helping her seek a flat. The end of this episode mentions a cab driver who seems to have an interest in our heroine. That may be a hint of things to come.

Dear Betty, lovely dreams can soon turn sour on waking. In fact, they can be so cruel when reality sinks in. Life carries on. I am so enjoying your creativity. Happy new year.

Betty,
There is something about this poem that makes me feel it takes place deep inside a vast cloud... There is plenty of light, but we can only see the immediate situation. You let us know that it only a small clip of a great long story we get to tell ourselves...
