A Pleasurable Dream

A PLEASURABLE DREAM

I awaken to a gleeful dream

In fact, I would like to return to slumber

If I could

The dream was about Henry and me

He suddenly recovered from his amnesia

And recognized me with a broad smile

Admittedly he was very tired and still in some pain

However, he kissed me on my cheek and I displayed my ring and he recalled it straight away

We hugged and smooched as much as he was able

And continued to converse about the present and the future

I then surprised him about the baby

He shed tears of joy

And asked many questions about my care and where to live

I mentioned that I am looking for an apartment for all of us in London, how delightful this city appears to be and that my doctor is here

He seemed quite animated, yet a bit concerned about my health

I clarified that I must see my doctor soon for a checkup

He held his hand in mine and revealed that he shall be dismissed very soon

If only that marvelous dream was true

I would be in heaven

It hurts my heart to think of reality

And the drudgery of seeking a flat to be alone

Raising my child

I must clothe myself to be ready for Christine and the flat hunting

We settle with some hot tea and scones before we leave

I recount my dream to Christine, she understands my sorrow

Tears well up as I sip my tea

T’s part of grieving as Christine nods her head

She imparts that we must be leaving

I inform her about the free ride with the cab driver who seems to fancy me or just pities me

I show her his card, she is fine with this idea

Thank you Curly, much appreciated

There’s a bittersweet ache in this—hope and longing tangled with the weight of reality.
I feel the dream’s joy pressing against the day’s sorrow, and it cuts straight to the heart.

Life takes us to places that will break our hearts. Dear Betty, you allowed the reader to feel and understand the places and the thoughts shared. Thank you, dear friend for sharing the amazing and worthwhile poetry.

I have to admit you have a distinct style of expression to which you are loyal. That in itself is a plus.

I began this reading, Betty, believing it to be a light and perhaps amusing tale. As the words ground into the heart, sadness enveloped. But there is a warm solace there, isnt there? This is an encouraging poem that ultimately is uplifting, in a deep way. Well done- so good Betty, so good.

you as well!!
Wouldnt it be good if we could just fall back asleep and continue where the last dream left off? But instead, no matter how hard we try we usually get something else playing in the bizarre paralysis that we must endure each night, for what reason even scientists are stumped on.
But then again, are dreams really so unusual? We pretend everything is fine in life, especially when it isnt like we are trying to convince others all is well, or perhaps we just try to convince ourselves.
It would take people far cleverer than me many lifetimes to answer that question, so I just smile the usual reply of "fine thanks" and plod on in our journey on a ball flying through the air at speeds that would make us senseless, if not for the delusion that we are all somehow doing just fine and in some mythical form of control!
But sometimes we dream such happiness that it somehow infects our day with a pleasurable comfort in knowing that we might not know the how's and whys, but why should that stop us from enjoying the ride that is life?
Especially if there's coffee and cake involved! 😀

Betty, a wonderful poem. Sad at times perhaps. But our dreams are what hold us together, without them, we would fall apart.
