TOUCH

TOUCH

A Poem by Betty Hermelee
"

a touch of nature

TOUCH

In winter I behold the Crepe Myrtle Tree

in all of its nudity

yet it settles into the earth with grace and nobility

in summer different hues blossom and flutter in a gentle breeze

so delicate they may tumble

it compels my mind to wander to my youth

and the summers we spent deep in the mountains

those lovelies bountiful on our land

Now I gaze more attentively at the smooth bark

trace my fingers up and down its silkiness

akin to woman’s smooth skin

convinced that this tree shall rest here

long after my demise

I have such an affinity with trees Betty. We can learn so much from them. A beautiful poem. Hope you are well. So many glitches on WC at the moment. Not easy to navigate here.

I like the comparison of crepe myrtle in winter to a nude and skin. And you're right: no one can kill a crepe myrtle, even if you need them out of the garden.

You're welcome! 🌸
A wonderful dedication to the beautiful crepe myrtle trees we have in NC. I have one in my front yard. It seemed to take a long time to grow but it is going strong.

This lingers on the quiet dignity of life, and the way beauty outlives us all.
The touch and memory weave together, soft, patient, and lasting.

Smiling hugs and happy times to you and Norm!
If only we could all feel how fleeting life is for us in comparison to nature's beauty that completely surrounds us to remind us, yet we barely give it a second thought until ma nature taps us on the shoulder to remind us.
I am surrounded by trees that will be here long after im planted, so maybe that should be our final warning to enjoy them while we still can. 😆

The imagery in this one is almost erotic. Perhaps it's because of the life force that emanates from the tree. The natural world often takes a battering from mankind, but it always comes back. Unfortunately, we do not.

This more lovely than sad. Nothing mortal lives forever in the flesh, but we have the chance for eternity if we qualify. Let's be good to one another, and time will tell.
