THE BLOB

 

A transient moment from childhood

in a tacky dime store while purchasing house goods

squishy blob- face pillow stares me in the face

I pick it up, hug it, place it on my skin, pinch it

and put it in my shopping cart

that soft blob restored splendid childhood memories

slept with a pillow just like that one every night

 

Now, as elderly, it seems to adapt perfectly in the crux of my arm pit

and down to my elbow, offering enough cushion to sleep through the night

there is a purpose for these blob pillows…. such relief, body support

and joyful memories of one’s past

if my mother only knew what I bought today she would

presumably scowl at me and hit the roof

and say” we do not need another pillow in this house”

 

So, listen up folks, do not feel awkward about claiming one of these

Squishy blobs…. There is no age limit…only an imagination and a glance back when…

I don’t recall ever owning my very own blob or slime, perhaps for various valid reasons. But I’ve had the experience of engaging with them during social play. So, that was for the most part, fun.
