No Science of Love

No Science of Love

A Poem by Blake Q Hatfield

Since the time of man began
We've tried to understand it all
We break it down in scientific terms
It all becomes cut and dry
The mystery and magic stolen away
But as hard as they try
Some things remain unexplained

The behavior we partake in
Helps us live and grow
And Mr. Scientist tells us the how and why
We do those things we do
But they can't seem to explain love
So I ask you
From the bottom of my heart
Mr. Scientist, leave love alone

Is it just a need to breed
Or fear of being alone
Maybe it's just chemical
But Mr. Scientist, I don't really care
So Mr. Scientist, leave love alone

From the angel look in her eyes
To the beauty of her smile
And the way she makes me feel
When she tells me how she loves me
And as we listen to one another
I realize that love is greater than your science

I know you wanna try
To put it all in cut and dry terms
But I think this is one of those things
That we need to be a bit of a mystery
For if we knew the how and why
And all those drab things
We'd loose the feeling of love
So Mr. Scientist leave this one thing alone
You can learn it all from heavens to the lowest depth
But leave us love

Author's Note

Blake Q Hatfield
I wrote this awhile back about how it seems that we try to use science to discredit the idea of love. The poem itself is an appeal against science and it's simplification of the concept of love. If you look at it, it's almost a mirror of the dark age mind set of shunning truth for the comfort of belief. Please feel free to comment.

Ough, the forth strophe is so sweet :) .
I don't think that you have to ask Mr. Scienctist to leave love alone :)) , bcuz it's guaranteed that he won't find out s**t; love is a bond between souls, and that can only be felt :] .

Cool....I am with you love is too wonderful and magical to be broken down and fit into the puzzle pieces science gives us. Great write.
