All I Said Was...

All I Said Was...

A Poem by Blake Q Hatfield

You were the best I ever had
But when I think of you I feel so sad
I just don't what I said
Don't know what to do
All I said was... I do too

You were like the blue roses of my dreams
A natural poetry for all to see
Your eyes sparkled like the sun
And like it I thought you were the only one
But I guess you wanted to teach a lesson gone too far
That the sun is just another star
And though we think we see it today
It's just the past coming our way
And just like that the night seeped into my world

I wonder why it took so long
For you to sing your swan love song
If you had doubts about our destiny
You should have just let me be
I'd rather an arrow to the heart
Than to watch my world suddenly fall apart
I thought you were ready for forever
But I guess you were only fair weather
Because all I can now are clouds
And the whiskey raining to wash you away
I tell myself I'll be okay
Because as much as I'll try
I can never really say goodbye

What in the world did I do
What the hell did I say
All wanted was to love you
But I guess I was the fool
To ever believe you could ever see a home in me
You were the best I'd ever had
But I guess our time has passed
Yet my loves still lingers for you
All I said was... I do too

Love your metaphor of weather in this poem. As well as, the way you compare her to the sun and poetry. It is definitely a sad one with strong emotions. Just the way I like poetry. The last verse gets me the most.
