if i only knew

if i only knew

A Poem by Hunter Zabbai

i wish i knew a better way to tell you that i loved you
if i could, i swear i would
i would elaborate about the great day
that we met, was it chance, was it fate?
my eyes triggered a reaction into my brain
and i knew from that moment my life wouldn't be the same
i don't believe in love at first sight, but i believe in this
seasons of abyss, you helped me clear the mist
life's been rough, and s**t's been tough
but we've been through enough, i need you too much
abandoned the phantom lifestyle of before
kicked the old habits and rabbits out the door
if i was a better lyricist, i wouldnt have any fear when i send you this
i would pen eloquently about your beauty
how it radiates from your soul, it's what makes me whole
your eyes are a diamond prize in my cracker jack box
and you look so goddamn cute in your pink penguin socks
you made a hero out of this villain, guts spilling
maybe one day we'll get stuck with grandchildren
i wanna take you far away from all this pain
come confide in me, a place where you can stay
you are such a free spirit, with a clear vision
and it became clear to me that you are what my life is missin'

if i only knew
a better way
to tell you
i love you
instead of failing again
maybe then
we'd become
more than friends
but i ain't given up, no
i ain't given up
