I said, I would love you forever.
I said, you were the breath of living air that brought sparks to life again.
I said, I would never forget the wind beneath my freedom flight.
I said, yes I would always remember your laughing, playful, jovial manner.
Like a quarterback you aimed for my wide open spaces to make your touchdown.
I said, yes to the music in your head.
I said, yes to the dances everywhere.
I said, yes! Shall we kiss again?
It was time that passed some thirty years or so. You finally reappeared.
I said, no it isn't you, no rosy cheeks, nor sparkling eyes of blue.
I said, no to your hair that was so silky, golden smooth.
I said, no! I now knew I always had loved another.
Today I didn't even recognize the lover I would've loved forever.
Shows how naive, perhaps shallow we are as youngsters when it comes to looks :)
Loved the part of your reply to Julie when you write... "We are given the face of beauty in youth, and the face we deserve in old age"
That's brilliant, a poem waiting to be written.
Good morning, hope you are well

I said these words a few times.
"I said, I would love you forever.

The above lines. Sweet memories, in time, we do appreciate. Thank you dear Bonnie for sharing the amazing poetry and your thoughts.

What sadness here.,what memories to have looked back on for all that time. But then perhaps if you'd been together, the changes might not have been so extreme. This is such an emotional poem, each time read, the words seem to mean more and more.

As part of the 3 a poem written about them. 2 were very much as they had been I would have known them had we met on the street. This poem was created from how catatonic a person can be. But seem fully functional. How ever he was seen all those years ago was not real. Just an escape from the hurt left by someone else.

Although I got it wrong, you didn't, your writing is laid so well, its wording set in fine language... I should have been more careful. Bonnie. Take care, keep safe.

But at least we get old together
So I’m sure he was no Davy Jones Or David Partridge
We were all young once And what was old never becomes new again
Maybe he forgot to look at her soul n heart

Thanks for the review. I've written a few poems in a row these past few weeks. This one came easy and fast. How wrong ones youthful desires can steer you in one direction and old age show you how wrong you can be.
Thanks again for the review.
