Frozen

Frozen

A Poem by Curly Grace

I remember mimicking lines,
curves of this statue
in a courtyard at school.
Knew not of the artist
who sculpted this beauty,
nor could I tell you
the women waiting patiently,
sitting frozen in a moment,
simplicity in stone.

Though I tried to create
my version from the artist’s vision,
using charcoal, lines begin
running along paper
to invoke a feeling
of a moment I felt.
I was the woman
frozen in time, waiting
patiently for someone
to break the outer shell,
freeing me from the binds
keeping me captive so long.

Sarah,
I think everyone has memories of small things no one else knows about, but the memory is always there, to make random appearances, so we stop and remember that statue, that car, that tree, that face, whatever... it is just a splash of color on the corner of our canvas no one notices. They are a goldmine of prompts.

Thank you, Vol.
Those small, private flashes really are where so much begins for me too.

You have me standing inside my own head staring at that statue with you my heart stopped in mid-beat.
