Catacombs of the Self

Catacombs of the Self

A Poem by Curly Grace

Heading down to the catacombs

  of the house,

the tomb of forty years

  of unfinished pieces,

a boulevard of broken dreams,

  half-finished art,

  empty frames waiting,

  longing for their masterpieces.

Past lines unwritten,

words without arrangement

that spilled out as ghosts

  with nowhere to go.

Time to dust off my life,

  set the spirits free.

Time to resurrect

  the girl I buried

  long ago.

Why am I hearing the Twilight Zone when I read your first line?
Dont do that. Leave the catacombs to their dusty old boxes of i don't remember what and do as i do, place one goldfish bowl near to where you write and scribble random words or phrases on a post it note. You know, the lines you tried and failed to find a home in a poem. Then fold them and when the muse is absent, just go fishing for words and see if they ring any bells this time!
It works a treat most times, until someone asks why there are no goldfish in the bowl and you have to tell them you once wrote Nirvana on a post it and it ate them! 😀

Piranha would’ve nailed the joke, but nirvana definitely took it.. read more

Autocorrect was invented by an assassin... or asshat if autocorrelation didn't correct it! 😀

I can identify with this one. Time gets away from us and we leave undone or half done many pieces of our art. The only remedy is to get back in line again and recommit ourselves to our goals. No one is going to do it for us.

Very nice poem Sarah! Definitely gave me the feeling of all those abandoned pieces, I too am guilty of neglecting. "Time to dust off my life". Yes, I think you are right- we must make it a priority. No way to make that masterpiece without delving back into it! Cheers
