For the Girl Who Grew Up Too Soon

For the Girl Who Grew Up Too Soon

A Poem by Curly Grace
"

Marie

"

You were small,
but the world asked you to be bigger
than any child should ever have to be.

You learned to carry storms
in hands meant for crayons,
learned to swallow silence
when what you needed
was to be heard.

They called it life,
but you knew better-
you knew it was loss
wearing the mask of normal.

And still,
you kept a softness in you,
a tiny ember that refused
to go out.

I see that in you.
I recognize the way a child
can become her own shelter,
her own comfort,
her own strength.

Little one,
you were never wrong for wanting love.
You were never wrong for needing more
than what you were given.

But look at you now-
still standing,
still feeling,
still writing your truth
with a courage that glows
through every crack.

For girls like us,
survival is a kind of poetry.
And you,
my dear,
are a whole book
still writing herself.

This is a deeply heartfelt and encouraging poem here...:)

You take the reader on a journey, explaining the hardhips of a young person's life.....

I have been through some stuff myself, so this one resonated with me ....

I love the way you focus on the positives, whilst staying true to the hardships and trauma the child has been through...

Thanks for sharing...

You weave pictures with your words with ease. Your last stanza is just dead on correct.
