The Light Between Lines

Holding Light in Shadow

                 Your words move

                through shadow,

              yet as I read them,

             a pale light rises

           the kind that doesn’t chase

         darkness away,

      but softens it.

              There’s a quiet glow

             beneath your ache,

       a tenderness you may not see

         but I feel all the same.

         Even in the storms

        you name,

       something in you shines

         a steady,

      unspoken warmth

       that I can’t help

      but hold gently.

       And though you write

        of distance,

      a soft truth lingers

        in the light between your lines:

     I value the heart

        that wrote them,

  in a way that feels calm,

     constant,

  and quietly bright.

This is such a loving tribute to the magic of the written word and how that power can transport us, transform us and transcend all space and time. There's a line Leon Russell wrote in 1979 that goes, "I love you in a place where there's no space and time". I was reminded of that song reading your poem. Simply beautiful.

Isn't that the calm and safety all of us seek?
We sometimes get close enough to touch but it is elusively slippery to keep a grip of....but we live in hope.
