How We Met

Beloved

We met the way people do now-
through words,
through a shared sense of humor,
through small observations
that stayed.

No expectations.
No designs.
Just conversation
finding its own pace.

Somewhere along the way,
we surprised ourselves-
not with anything sudden,
but with how easily interest took shape,
how naturally respect settled in.

There was laughter.
There was imagination.
There was a brief brightness-
quiet,
unexpected.

And then-
we chose care.

We slowed.
We listened.
We allowed friendship the room
to stand on its own,
to be understood without strain.

That choice matters to me.

So here we are-
two people arriving face to face,
not to press forward,
not to step back,
but simply to see
what remains true
when words give way to presence.

I find myself looking forward to that moment
calmly,
warmly,
with an open heart.

Whatever this becomes,
I’m grateful for how it began-
with patience,
with respect.

I’m glad we met.
And I’m glad we’re taking our time.
