When a Word Is Meant

I don’t need every word from you.

I don’t need them spoken

or written
or witnessed.

I only need the ones you mean.

The ones you choose
when silence would be easier.
The ones you give
because you want me there.

It doesn’t matter
who else hears them.
Who else understands.

I know when a word is meant for me.

And when it is-
I hold it
like it was always
coming home.
