A New Year, A New Problem

A New Year, A New Problem

A Chapter by Bookie Bridges

Elise sat in the back of the room reading quietly to herself. It was free block, better known as study hall, and she couldn't concentrate on her novel. To her it felt like someone was staring at her.
Turning around her honey brown eyes met icy-steel orbs. It was that new kid, Adam. Elise felt her face heat up a bit as she quickly turned her attention back to her book.
Adam's stare ended not long after the raven haired girl turned around again. Sighing a bit Adam took out paper and started to write. 'Hi, I'm Adam. What's your name?' He passed Elise the parchment.
At first Elise was confused as to why the new boy would try communicating with her of all people. Then she figured the ginger was trying to ask for help or something trivial like that.
'Elise...' she slid the paper over the smooth desk surface until someone took the hint and passed it to Adam.
Adam took the paper and read it before, he himself, scribbled some message down. 'That's a pretty cool name.'
'Thanks, Adam is a good one too.' Elise was already bored of this.
'Can I ask you something?' Adam replied. Elise grinned as she sent her answer.
'Other then that! Why haven't you said anything? Like during roll call...'
Adam is persistent and even if he's only been here for a week, he feels like Elise is too quiet and shy. If he hadn't have sat behind her, he might not have know that she was as intelligent as she is cute.
'It's none of your concern Adam.'
This earned a irritated grumble from Adam.
The bell rang and it was time for lunch, Elise quickly going to meet up with friends while Adam was pulled along with some of the more popular jocks. The same as it had been when he first got to New Leaf High-school.

'There's this annoying guy that won't stop bugging me...' Elise wrote on a small white board she had in her bag. She showed it to Monica, Daisy, and Lillie, her best friends.
"Maybe he's just trying to be friendly, ja?" Monica was the first to respond. She was a foreign exchange student from Germany, studying abroad in America.
"Yeah, Adam, right? He's kinda cute."
Elise face palmed, erased her message and wrote, 'What's with you and boys Lillie?'
Lillie shrugged and Daisy rolled her eyes. Lillie and Daisy were twins; Lillie being the older one, as well as oldest in the group.
"Well I think that if a guy is taking interest in you, you should at least try to see eye to eye. What's the worst that could happen?" Daisy said, getting a few nods of agreement from the other two girls.
'He asked why I don't talk.' Elise replied with a scowl.
"Ah...." was the chorus she was given.
"Vell, it's not like jou can help it. I vouldn't speak too, if I vere jou." Monica said putting a hand on Elise's shoulder.
Elise erased the message and was about to write something when someone came and ruffled her hair.
As she tried fixing her hair, she glared daggers at whoever was the culprit, seeing it to be Adam, her older brother Josh, and his friend Matthue.  She mainly glared at Adam and Josh, though.
'Hey guys. What's  up?' Elise wrote.
"I'm doing great, how aboot you Ellie?" Matthue moved here from Canada. Hence the accent.
 Elise shrugged.
"I'm doing fabulous dear sister." Josh rolled his eyes as Adam snorted.
"It's nice to see you again 'Ellie,' I'm wonderful. Thanks for asking." Adam grinned at the obviously annoyed Elise.
"I'm Monica. A pleasure..." she shook each guys hand.
"Lillie here! Nice to meet 'ya! This is my older twin Daisy!" At this Lillie motioned to her sister.
"Hey John, it's been a while huh?"
Adam glanced between the two. "You two know each other?"
Daisy and John nod. "We work together."
'Cool. I gotta go to the library for a club meeting. Later.' Elise showed the white board.
"Okay, bye Ellie!" The girls and John hugged her, Matthue high-fived her, and Adam waved.
Adam watched her walk down the hallway until he felt five pair of eyes on him. "What?"
"What's with you and Elise, eh?" John teased, putting an arm around his shoulder.
" N-nothing. Your being ridiculous." Adam stammered. "I-I'm just... interested."
"In what?" Lillie asked quirking a brow.
"I'm not sure myself..." Adam looked back to where he'd last seen Elise.
"Well Ellie is unique. There's a lot to be intrigued by. She'll tell you, if she thinks she can trust you that is." Matthue smirked, causing Adam to look at him.
 "How do I do that?"
 The group smirked.

Ignore spelling errors, sadly I need to get an editor... Matthue is not a spelling mistake. This is only a intro chapter.
