Masks

Masks

A Poem by Light
"

the title says it all

"

December (2010)

A mask by day
And face by night

Oh wretched thing
That hides my being,
Lost in known disguise.
I ador(n)e this mask,
An imaginary visage,
Living daylight's lie.

Oh lonely nights
Where it's only I.
My radiant face;
Illuminous light,
This gorgeous thing
That no one sees
Unveiled only for me.

A man without a mask;
Can such a curse be?
Loneliness is agony;
My mask remains with me.

this mask is just an illusion that we create for ourselves...an illusion that helps us bury those sad and lonely moments that are now a part of us...i am not sure if its right to disilluion oneself and face whats behind the mask...it may be really scary and for all that life is worth is happiness..infinite happiness...so why take off the mask and watch happiness flow away like sand in an hourglass...maybe the mask will make its way to our souls and absorb the loneliness that exist in that dark corner of our heart.

What are we but an infinite layers of masks...I second you on your clinging to your mask- barvo! You actually spoke my mind in this one...:)

I always liked the idea of mask, even here it has different meaning,...Everyone is wearing it, no matter if all we realize that...Mask is part from our Ego and in the same time it represents "someone else",who lives inside us...Its has dual characters...like Yin and Yan..I loved that:

Oh lonely nights
Where it's only I.
My radiant face;
Illuminous light,

Very impressive! Most people have Masks that they themselves can not see. With every new environment you will develop another facade. The real trick is to never lose you who are underneath it all. =) very enjoyable read. Thank you

This poem expresses the way people live, I love the first two lines:

"A mask by day
And face by night"

'A mask by day
And face by night'

That says it all - it's the way we live. Nice exploration.

The mask hold your emotions. Your you-ness. A man with out a mask wears his emotions for all to see. Show those emotions-just like you do-through this lovely writing of yours

there was a very cute lesson about a person's masks in the japanese culture - they say every person has three masks: the first one, for everyone to see, the second one just for the loved ones, and the third ones just for that person's self :). i like how you treat this subject - and my favorite part here is
"I ador(n)e this mask,
An imaginary visage,
Living daylight's lie."

We all act in this world. Sometimes so much that people neglect to remove their masks and are no longer true to their own being. Like poetic justice said, who we confide in is all about trust. I feel sorry for those with nobody to open up to. Great write! (and sorry for the rambling)
