Married, with Children.

Married, with Children.

A Poem by Brett Hernan

It's raining in the living room
since the roof is leaking. He is
quick to get them from behind
the sofa. He tears open the front
door in pursuit. Through the front
window you can see a duplicate front door
in the garage. Almost all snow is gone
in just two or three days his hat back
on his head he is holding them in a different manner
looking through the doorway waiting to be signaled
to when he walks away from the door
the line is suddenly at an angle
house is partially dark and empty
not the leather guy wearing the $5 bill necklace on the outside of his shirt
you see their driveway which has been there for ten years
sign found in the lower right corner
If you look at the boards closely
you can see indentations in the middle of them
We see her from the front
you can see it in his hand
calls from the same phone
without unlocking the door.
Goes to open
the "secret exit"
from the basement
during the storm.
