A Child's Dream

A Child's Dream

A Story by Brett Hernan

A small child of five years of age lays in it's big-boy bed securely in the room next to his parents at night, and dreams.
In his dream he sits, naked, upon the knees of two youthful, adult women, both of whom have hair long enough to reach their waists and each of which bears a color of an opposing nature. Their long, straight hair is brown or blond. One of them has brown hair like wood, the other blond like the sunshine behind them, fuming with warmth, as it was.

The three of them sit cross-legged, so that each of the boy's buttocks is equally resting upon each of their knees. Seated they are, on a very soft, moist, tufty, rise of lawn, like up on the side of a highway out in the country where the ground has been cut away to make a flat road, and all three of them set against the beaming blue sky of a sunny, blue skied day. All three of them are laughing, purely and innocently, but are still.

Earlier on that night, just before suburban standard bed time of 7.00 pm for all children of five, after, it was dark, he'd woken and lain there in the dark 3.00 am woken eyed dreamland, watching, as in each of the corners of his room, columns commenced appearing into a final tangible visual solidity. Each of these were overgrown with vines, and they were there standing threaded through with vines and with arches and the leaves increased and decreased in size as he finally fell asleep.

When the boy attended school the next day, he sat upright at the little table on his equally small chair. Being in a primary school, as he was, the teacher chose one afternoon to explain to them all the Second World War, in some detail, as it so very much requires.

However, when she arrived upon the subject of the Nazi fascist dictator, Adolf Hitler, and had spoken of his obsessive program designed to allow him to execute as many Jewish people as he possibly could, the boy exasperatedly wondered why and for what purpose it served to actually retain within memory, at all, any record of a person who had actually managed to engineer himself to a position of such power within a society. Why tell everyone else it was possible to somehow move into the  position he'd engineered himself into so that he could attain such an absolute form of power that he could manage to be able to successfully do such a thing of such a  purest form of venomous evil? It made more sense to him that such a being should never be mentioned just in case others, just like him in nature, would realize that the feat he had perpetrated upon other human beings certainly was attainable. Why even let them know it was possible?

Then she moved on in subject and began to speak of the former island of Krakatoa, (she was in a talkative mood). The island of Krakatoa, when it had existed, was the atypical Pacific ocean island with the palm trees at both ends and in a ring surrounding it. These palm trees, and other palms loaded with coconuts hiding the beginning of the incline on both of the sides of a mountainous volcano, smoldering, as it had been for many years.

Beneath the vent of the volcano, that which stopped it for a long time from erupting, was the presence of a blockage. A gigantic boulder, blocking, beneath the crusty surface of the the Earth, right at the very place where the vent was supplied the with molten rock which supplied the furnacing mass of the lava pool that made up the crest of the volcano of the island of Krakatoa.

This initially enormous vent plugging rock, has, by virtue of it sitting in the midst of the mass of molten lava which makes up the Earth's core restraining an unimaginable pressure, has over millennia, begun to melt and has by now become much smaller in size.

Floating in space, earth contains at its core a mass of ever burning liquid metal, positively and negatively charged to give it a magnetic inertia and keep the Earth fixed there in space.

Hanging in space anchored to the magnetic space of the universe, this volcano, at the moment it released all of the built up pressure within it on account of the boulder having finally melted to the point that it was ejected, somewhat like a bullet leaves a pistol barrel, and thus created a new comet by shooting the remains of this flaming stone out into the space surrounding the earth.

There was no longer and island named 'Krakatoa' after this eruption. The explosive power of the ejection of its lava born projectile sounded so greatly that it was heard everywhere on the Earth, three times.

It was said that the sunsets for the next eighty years were more spectacular of than any of those ever previously witnessed before in the centuries previous, (when sunset watching was like the best show on TV), and these were the result of the heavens having had within them a suddenly dispersed load of tons of ash and dust, with their heavy chemical and and mineral content, thrown into and then caught up there for decades, being passed back and forth in the highest levels of the uppermost reaches of the Earth's atmosphere.

However, she failed to mention to the child and his class mates, (who may or may not have been listening, or daydreaming), about the day upon the roof viewing deck of Hitler’s 'Wolf's Lair', his carved into the top of a mountain, mountain top fortress, that he had made the conclusive decision to invade Poland.

Apparently, according to a witness at that time, he'd never seen the mountain sky surrounding the summit in which they stood, display as it did on that particular day, both below and all around them, such unusual colors and forms, all of them unlike any he'd seen before, or even, ever after.
