EscapeA Chapter by Burr the Story SorceressDark stood on a tree branch above the arguing Dersoni. The most powerful one of them, the one he had found was Malcolm, wanted to storm into the cottage and kill Clair. His commanders wanted to set a trap for her. Malcolm argued that she knew that he had broken through the safeguards and would be looking for magic. The others said that she expected them to storm the cottage. Dark decided to break up the discussion before they came to a decision. He pulled away the spell that hid him and saw the four men jerk and look around. Dark jumped from his perch into their mist. He threw the three lesser Dersoni into nearby trees, knocking them out cold. Then he turned to face Malcolm. The Dersonus was young by vampire standards, only around five centuries old. He had dull black hair with red tips and it went a little past his earlobes. His antenna were solid black, no hints of red and silver like Clair's. He was as tall as Dark with tan skin and black eyes. “Who are you?! You dare attack a Dersoni noblemen and his men!” Malcolm's antenna sparked. “I will teach you a lesson, fool!” Malcolm's antenna shot at Dark, sparking wildly. Dark reached up and grabbed both antenna before they touched him. He yanked them, bringing a cry of pain from Malcolm. “I killed a Dersonus once before,” Dark said calmly. “I won't mind doing it again in your case.” “It is impossible to kill a Dersonus, human!”Malcolm yelled at him. “Human? Now that's a silly notation. I haven't been human for more than three thousand years.” Dark pulled back his hood. Malcolm's black gaze met Dark's Midnight blue eyes. “Vampire,” Malcolm breathed. “But there are no vampires in Amardes. They were all killed by humans.” “No,we just learned to hide ourselves better.” Dark tugged the antenna again and grabbed some of Malcolm's hair. With a hard yank, the hairs came free and Dark disappeared into the night.

Clair hastily threw safeguards between herself and her cousins. It was hopeless, though. The youngest of them was a century older than herself, and she had yet to come into all her powers. They laughed as they striped her of her spells. “Come now, Clair,” one said. “You are centuries away from being our equal.” “Yeah,” another, behind her, laughed. “Father thinks the safeguards placed here were your's, but we know you better.” “Much better,” the one in front of her agreed. The two on either side reached out to grab her arms.... And they were blown into nearby trees. A midnight blue sphere surrounded Clair, keeping her cousins away from no where and knocked all four Dersoni into unconsciousness with a single spell. The sphere faded as he approached her. “We most hurry.” he said simply. He out the green bag on his shoulders on his back and easily picked up Clair. “Wait,”she said, confused, “don't you want me to change?” “Not yet,” he started off into the forest. “We'll put some distance between us and them. Then, if you wish, we'll fly.” “Where are we going?” she rested against Dark, her arms around his neck. “To a friend's house in Talla.” Clair hide her face in his neck, tried from the spell casting, and drifted into sleep while Dark kept a steady pace. © 2008 Burr the Story Sorceress |
