Part 9A Chapter by Burr the Story SorceressIt wasn't Worrin at the door. It was Yanna and Sofia. Yanna wore an olive green gown that was backless with a plunging neckline that reached her navel. Her light brown hair was down in a half-ponytail and was straight as an line. Sofia wore a dark jade dress that completely covered and hugged her form. Her hair was in a ponytail and was curled. I couldn't see their shoes because their dresses dragged on the floor. Yanna carried a bright green dress and Sofia had a basket full of cosmetic and hair care products. “Hello, deary,” Yanna said as she draped the dress across the foot of my bed. She smiled at me and her eyes fell to the bandage around my neck. “Ah! See! I told you we'd need the cream!” Sofia studied the bandage and sighed in relief. “Oh, thank heaven. I was starting to get worried. Especially when he left for the city earlier.” “Worrin left?” I asked, surprised. “Yes.” Sofia started taking out the things in her basket and organizing them. “He said he had some things to settle with the police.” She handed me a short, small glass cylinder filled with white cream. “This will make the pinpricks completely disappear.” “Yup,” Yanna said as she looked out the window at the sky. “Makes me glad Adelliza is our friend. Tyler would be mortified if everyone saw the bites I leave on him.” Sofia giggled. “I love this stuff, too.” I looked kinda confused. “What a coincidence. I have an aunt named Adelliza.” The two looked at each other. “Couldn't be,” Sofia said. “Yea, no way. Not the same lady,” Yanna agreed. “What?” I asked. “Our Adelliza is the strongest witch of all time,” Sofia informed me. “She is what we call a 'bred-witch,'” Yanna added. “Years of arranged marriages between the strongest magic families made her.” “It must be a popular name from where she was born than,” I agreed. I knew I wasn't magic. Yanna looked out the window again. The sun was completely down and the stars where coming out. “We'd best move it if we wanna be on time. The Full Moon Dinner will start soon.” “Full Moon Dinner?” I asked. “Every month, on the night of the full moon, all of the family living in the manor come and have dinner,” Sofia explained. “Worrin wants to introduce you to the family here. He said he should be back before midnight and he wants Yanna, Tyler, my mate Zachary, and I to keep you company.” “Yup.” Yanna pushed me toward the bathroom. “Wash off and we'll help you get dressed and dolled up.” I smiled and nodded. It was wonderful to have girls to hang out with and do girl things with like putting on make up and dressing up. My mom didn't have a lot of time to spend with me and I didn't have friends at school. I was going to have fun tonight. How could I not?

Deep in the forest behind the manor was a huge clearing with a gazebo in the center. The gazebo was occupied by tables that seated three people on each long side. The tables were arranged in a circle around the outer edge with gaps between each table to allow people to walk between them. The center of the gazebo was raised and a larger, square table where four people sat. Everywhere in the clearing was activity. People talking, couples flirting, dancing, eating, all happening at the same time. Some of the people present, the werewolves, were either completely naked or barely clothed and had fur, tails, and wolf ears. Everything stopped when Yanna, Sofia and I walk out of the trees. Everyone turned and stared at me and I was glad I was between my companions. My dress was backless with low neckline, but not as low as Yanna's. It was long and flowing with a slit up the left side that ended a few inches below my hip. With the heels Sofia gave me I probably won't have been able to walk in it. My hair was loose and wavy around my shoulders. Yanna and Sofia had decided against using a lot of make up. My cheeks were a little pinker and my lips were a little redder. The woman at the square table got up and walked toward us. I recognized her as the woman Worrin had been speaking to while I hid in the hedges. Tonight her dress was as sliver as the moonlight, straight and form fitting. The only skin I could see was that of her face. Her hair was swept up and curls hung around her head. Her face held no expression. When she reached us she stopped and studied me intently. She met my eyes and waited. It felt like we stared at each other for ages. The rest of the gathering seemed to hold it's breath and no one moved. I didn't want Marcee to dislike me. She was Worrin's mother. I knew Worrin would always defend me, but I didn't want her to be angry with her oldest son because of me. I wanted her to like me and be happy that her son had found his mate. There was worry deep in her eyes and I knew it was for Worrin. I wanted to soothe those worries. I held out my hand to her, palm up, a request for friendship. I didn't have to voice my thoughts. I knew she could see what I was thinking for my thoughts reflected in my eyes. Marcee hesitated for a long moment. She took a deep breath, smiled, and took my hand. “I'm glad your here, my dear,” she said softly. “You make my oldest son happy and that is enough for me.” I smile at her. “I'm glad, too.” The gathering turned it's attention to the tables where maids in gray uniforms were setting out food. Marcee lead me to the square table. “We'll be sitting over there,” Yanna said as she pointed to her left. “Have fun with Aunt Marcee.” I watched them go to their places. I sat at the square table next to Marcee. Across from us sat the Triplets. Holden sat to the right. He, like the other werewolves, wore only his fur. He smirked at me and said, “Hello, human. Worrin fucked you yet?” The brother in the middle smacked him. He was very pale and very skinny. The red mark on Holden cheek showed that he was strong, though. His black hair was short and his silver eyes snapped. He wore a white suit and a red dress shirt. “Shut up, Holden. Unlike you, I don't want to know about Worrin's sex life.” The brother on the left leaned back in his chair studying me. He had long, curly blond hair and sky blue eyes. His skin was a golden tan and he would have been handsome if the look in his eyes wasn't as mean as it was. He wore tight, tan jeans and a blue dress shirt that matched his eyes. “I'm Nickolai and this is Chaser. You already know Holden.” I nodded and decided I did not like Worrin's brothers at all. “So, what went down?” Holden asked. “You can't expect me to think that nothing went down when you were safely tucked in Worrin's bed? He fucked you, I know.” My spine straightened and I wanted to smack him. An image of my old neighbor's dog sprang to the front of my mind. It was a nasty little terrier that barked at everyone it saw. It was a muddy brown and had almost bit me when I first met it. Holden reminded me of that little pest. Chaser smacked Holden again. “I said shut up.” “And I don't give a damn,” the werewolf snapped. The argument was ended by the arrival of Holden's meat. A maid gave Chaser and Marcee wine glasses of red liquid I guessed was blood and Nickolai nibbled on small cakes. I turned my attention to Marcee as I ate my food. We chatted through dinner about my life in the city. I came to really like Marcee. After we got over our species differences everything went very well. After the plate were cleaned from the table I started to worry about Worrin. The moon was getting higher in the sky and he still wasn't there. Marcee soothed my worries. “He'll be fine, my dear,” she said with a smile. “Worrin will be here soon. Now, come. I will introduce you to some of your new family.” In the next hour I was introduced to the members of the family that was there. I met first cousins through sixths cousins, nieces and nephews, aunts and uncles, adopted family members. I met werewolves, vampires, incubuses, wizards, nymphs and a few elves. I seemed to be the only human besides Tyler and Sofia in the family. Marcee was called away to deal with an argument and the introductions were put on hold. Yanna and Sofia came and sat with me near at the tree line. We were relaxing when a small group of werewolves came up to us, Holden in the lead. “Look what we found,” he sneered. “The human w****s.” “Go to hell, Holden,” Yanna snapped. “B*****s first.” Holden gave her a mock bow. “Alright,” I said as I stood up. “If it's b*****s first then we all have to go after you. We're waiting.” Holden's face couldn't decide between anger and embarrassment. “You b***h!” “I thought we went through this,” I countered. “You are the b***h here.” Holden lunged. I didn't take a step back. The confidence I had felt when I commanded Worrin to bite me was back in full force. I would not let that mangy dog bull me. As Holden got closer I got a vision of my neighbor's Yorkshire Terrier. I could see it clearly. The little muddy brown dog that was all bark and no bite. Even those he managed to sink his teeth in just thought he was a minor annoyance. He was harmless, just like Holden. The only difference was that Holden could probably rip me apart. At the last minute I throw my hands up. I wanted Holden to be just like that little terrier, small and harmless. My hands didn't touch a vicious wolf. Instead, they caught a yipping terrier. It was muddy brown and barely bigger than a month old puppy. It pumped it's little legs and yipped. Everyone, all the family members I had been introduced to and many I still had not met stared at me and the tiny dog I held in my hands. “Oh my god,” Sofia whispered. “You turned Holden into a Yorkshire Terrier,” Yanna said in amazement. “I did?” I asked as I stared at the dog in my hands. I felt dizzy and the world around me started to spin. “That's not good.” “Rose?”a concerned voice asked as strong hands took the terrier and pulled me close. I could see Worrin, but everything was fading. “Rose?” “I'm sorry,” I said as everything went black. © 2008 Burr the Story SorceressAuthor's Note
