Part 13A Chapter by Burr the Story SorceressI came to cradled in Worrin's arms as he carried me inside. I must have, thankfully, only been out for a few minutes. I snuggled closer to Worrin and sighed. “I have been fainting way too much lately,” I muttered. I look up at his face when I feel him laugh. “I don't think I like it at all.” His grin made it very hard for me to not smile back. “But, love, I must say that I enjoy carrying you around and having you tucked into my bed.” “You know,” I said boldly, my eyes on his, “I don't mind waking up in your bed at all if it means more of what happened last time.” Worrin set me down on my feet in front of a door. He opened it to revel his study. The large room was pleasantly cool and a breeze stirred the curtains where they were closed over open windows. He took my head and lead me to a lounge next to a curtain opening. We settled there, laying together, watching the white, fluffy clouds roam across the sky and feeling the breeze. “Worrin?” I looked up into his eyes and gently touched his cheek. “Are you-” He cut my question off with his lips. The kiss was as shocking as the first and I reacted just as instinctively. I pressed myself closer, kissed back, and my arms slid around his neck. His hands settled on my waist, holding me close and gently guiding me under him. His lips wondered over my cheek and down to my throat. I tipped my head back to give him more room and I held my breath in anticipation. Worrin jerked his head up and growled. Fur exploded out of his skin as he bared sharp, white fangs and dragged me closer to his chest. I looked over my shoulder and cowered against him. Standing in the grass outside the window, close to the line of trees, stood a tall, thin man in a gray suit. In one hand was a silver cane and a pair of white gloves rested in the other. His curly blond hair was slicked back from his face and his skin was a pasty white that didn't suit his ice blue eyes. His thin lips were set in a disapproving line as he gracefully walked across the lawn toward us. The most disturbing thing about him was the sticky sweet scent and taste that filled the air around him that the breeze blew our way. Worrin placed himself between the stranger and the lounge I was sitting on. He looked scarier than I have ever seen him. His eyes glowed with power and the fur along his spine was ruffled. His muscles were tense and he was completely focused on the stranger, like a hunter focuses on it's prey. “What do you want, Magic User,” Worrin growled, making sure the other man saw his deadly fangs. “You are trespassing on my ground where you know you are not welcome.” The man snickered and stopped about ten steps away from Worrin. “Really now, is this anyway to treat a visiting equal? I am Lord Erik Marlin, First Lord of the Magic Users Council. I have come, Master Worrin, to talk business with you.” The two stared at each other to the point that the air between them seemed to spark. I knew they were battling in a way that couldn't be seen. I could feel it. The power stirring in the air made me feel sick to my stomach and made the scene before me twist. I reached out for Worrin, frightened as my vision dimmed. I buried my face in the fur along his spine and tried very hard to stay conscious. The power quickly disappeared and I stopped feel sick. I didn't let go of Worrin as I peeked around him to look at the stranger. He was grinning. The sight made my stomach turn again. He looked at me like I was an injured bird and he a hungry cat. “There is our wayward bride. How fortunate that she has been found.” “SHE IS NO BRIDE OF YOURS!” Worrin roared, the sound making me cry out and cover my ears. The house shook and suddenly there were people, members of the clan, everywhere, watching the scene unfold. I searched frantic for Adelliza as Worrin continues speaking in a more quiet voice, “She is not one of yours. You cannot have her, User.” “Not mine?” Lord Erik laughed. “That, my friend, is a huge misconception. That young lady you were just holding is my fiancée.” © 2009 Burr the Story SorceressAuthor's Note
