We Will Be Heard

We Will Be Heard

A Poem by CJ
"

I came up with the idea to write this after the principal had announced on October 30 that we would not be allowed to wear costumes for Halloween. We dressed up anyway. We cannot be controlled.

"
They tell us no
We do it anyway
They rarely involve us in decisions
That's fine
We'll silently protest
The quiet will be deafening soon enough
They think they can control us
All because they are authority
They "know better"
But they don't know us
We will push back
We are told we should speak up
What they truly mean is
Only speak up when it is convenient for them
If they have to make a change,
Don't even bother
So we will speak up
We'll become a nuisance
Not just because we feel like it
But so we will be heard
Acceptance is not an option
We
Will
Be
Heard
