Jack Was Here

I woke up this morning and what did I see?

It was Jack Frost himself looking at me.

Wherever I looked, on each clod of earth,

Nature was glazed with shimmering mirth.

Under my feet was a crackle and crunch

Jack Frost had been and left a punch

The trees above hung heavy with glitter

Birds on the tops too cold to twitter.

He’d been at work even whilst I slept

And crept around ere I left my bed

He’d left a coating of crispy white

Just like icing that came in the night.

The cold of earth had welcomed him so

He’d stay a while and then he would go

But until then I stood to stare

At the glaze on the earth

For Jack was here.
