A Rhyme In TimeA Poem by ChristineDo I have time?!The question is, do you have the time, Is this a thing you want of mine? Well just a tick, now just a minute, The time is now, I know I use it. I think I have it right away If there’s enough hours in the day, Or did I leave it around somewhere, In any case, I’ve none to spare. Any time now I’ll get a minute, Oh it’s gone again, unless you have it.
Now is the time, the present is here, It should never be wasted, it is too dear. They say there’s time for everything, A time to be born and for dying, A time to laugh and a time to weep, A time at night to count some sheep. It comes in a flash, two shakes of lamb’s tail, Or the drop of a hat, you never can tell.
Eternity seems to last forever. Sooner or later, whichever is quicker, But sooner than you think And quicker than you blink, Once in a while, now and then, Before you know it, you can count to ten.
The first half hour falls at speed down the clock, The second half drags up slowly to the top. Just five minutes is popular and good To wait or do the things you should, Ten minutes though is not so solid With double digits it feels horrid, Now fifteen minutes is official and right, Just time enough for the end in sight, With twenty minutes you are free as a bird, Plenty of time to be seen and heard.
Well one of these days, before too long I’ll have more time, Where did it go wrong? In Japan or China the time is different, Somehow or other it’s less efficient, They always say that it is soon, But that depends upon the moon. Are there numbers in the sky That tell us when it’s time to cry. Well maybe there’s no such thing as time, Like the wind, it comes and goes Before I write another line. © 2026 Christine |
