Don’t Shrink to Fit.A Poem by Carl R Nicolas
Do not shrink yourself
to fit into places that were never built to understand your worth... If you are in a personal relationship, a professional career, or a creative space that overlooks your value, disregards your skills, and disrespects your contributions... you are in the wrong room... Ask yourself this wise question: Am I simply in the wrong room? You are a masterpiece, and a masterpiece in a dimly lit basement is still a masterpiece. You just need to move it to the gallery... You don’t need to prove your value to those who refuse to see it... Do not try to squeeze your self into a container that is too small for you... Do not lower your standards to match a low-energy environment... Do not diminish your light to make others comfortable... Leave that environment. Walk away and place yourself where your gifts are recognized... where your voice is welcomed, where your presence is not merely tolerated but celebrated... Find a place where your dedication is highlighted, not ignored... And when you find the right room... the world will finally see what you knew all along: Your value was always there...
