Someone Left His Heart’s Tag.

Someone Left His Heart’s Tag.

A Poem by Carl R Nicolas
"

There was an announcement on the radio, someone left his heart’s tag back in the mountains...

"
There was an announcement on the radio,
someone left his heart’s tag
back in the mountains...

A rupture no one could quiet,
a love that fell from its own height...
The great fall...

I didn’t just lose you,
I left a piece of myself behind,
buried where we once burned brightest...

I walked out of that love with my hands empty,
Leaving my truest, softest piece
Frozen somewhere between the peak and the panic...A private grief
broadcast to the world...

And somehow…
they were talking about me...

They say they found it.
But they don’t know.
You can’t just turn in a lost heart to the front desk...

I didn't lose it...
I abandoned it, when I ran from the fire...

I was the signal that broke,
the frequency that failed,
the one who walked away…

Maybe… I am finally free now...
