Feel the Thousand Splendid Rays of the Sun.A Poem by Carl R NicolasI took the weight they gave me, and gave it a purpose... Not to relive the wound, but to translate it, so no one else would feel alone inside theirs...
I took the weight they gave me,
and gave it a purpose... Not to relive the wound, but to translate it, so no one else would feel alone inside theirs... In the deepest, darkest, most suffocating corners of human experience, a strange and magnificent light still breathes... I turned silence into something human, something you could touch, something you could say, yes… I’ve been there too... We have all felt it, that cold weight, that isolating shadow where pain lives... Because pain, when hidden, imprisons, but when spoken, it becomes a bridge... Trauma wants to be a secret. It wants to be an island. But I am taking my scars, and I am weaving them into a bridge... I stood where breaking was expected, where the world pressed hard enough to erase your name, and still, I answered: I am here...It is the unbreakable will to remain curious, to remain tender, to remain alive... I kept my compass in places that tried to spin me lost, kept my heart open where closing would have been easier, kept wonder alive in rooms designed to kill it... There is a certain kind of strength that is only forged under extreme pressure... And somehow" through pressure meant to crush, l didn’t just survive… I learned to rise... You can hurt me, but you cannot define me... So yes, I carry scars, but I also carry sunlight... I have learned to feel the thousand, splendid rays of the sun, even when I am looking through the scars of a thousand storms... The joy is not naive. It is battle-tested. It is a triumphant shout that exists despite the wounds... Because even here, even after, even within, hope did not die... When we turn our suffering into a story we can share, we turn the isolating 'I' into a powerful, empathetic 'We.' Let us turn darkness into the very stage where hope dances. Feel the sun. Keep the light. Remain human... Carl Nicolas. © 2026 Carl R Nicolas |
