Sometimes Life Hands You the rain, not an Umbrella.A Poem by Carl R NicolasImagine you’re walking. Your plans are perfectly laid out for the day. The path ahead is clear. And then… it starts to rain... Not a drizzle. Not a passing shower. But a sudden, cold, relentless down
Imagine you’re walking. Your plans are perfectly laid out for the day. The path ahead is clear.
And then… it starts to rain... Not a drizzle. Not a passing shower. But a sudden, cold, relentless downpour. And you? You don’t have an umbrella... And in that moment, you realize, this is life... The rain becomes everything you didn’t expect for the day... the setbacks, the disappointments, the anxiety of slowingn you down... can’t quite explain, the plans that kust fell apart in your hands... And the moment you stop waiting for the storm to end, you discovered something powerful... You reach into your pocket, not for a magical shield, not to stop the rain, but for your cap... You pull it down. It doesn’t keep you perfectly dry... It won’t stop the storm... But it'll help you endure it... And then… you decided to keep walking... And there you are, no umbrella... No perfect solution... No shield from what’s already falling... but you are moving... And sometimes… what you have is enough to keep going... You keep walking through the discomfort, through the uncertainty, through the weight of this isn’t how it was supposed to go... It is the quiet, stubborn resilience of taking the limited tools you have on hand and moving forward anyway... Not every problem is meant to be solved immediately. Not every storm will stop when you want it to. Sometimes, the goal isn’t to stay dry; the goal is to make the best of a bad situation and reach your destination anyway... So let the rain fall...Let it not stop you... So, let it rain... Adjust your cap. And keep walking... You are still on your way... Sometimes… life doesn’t hand you an umbrella... It hands you the rain instead... and trusts you to keep walking through it... Carl Nicolas. © 2026 Carl R Nicolas |
