Heartbreak Hill

Heartbreak Hill

A Poem by Caradoc
"

I always find myself coming back here, to the foot of the hill where grows the Tree where Two Lovers Lay

"
Once more I find myself
Alone on Heartbreak Hill
The ghosts of old loves
Haunting me still
I suppose I am Cursed
To always return
To the Flames
That once burned me
Even so I wonder, if I had been more brave
If I had been a better man
Would I be happy now
With one of those burning fires
That entranced me so?
Would any of them have brought me joy?
Or the fairytale I have always dreamed of?
At this juncture I fear not, for I have learned
A bitter truth;
The root of the woe that dogs my steps
Has always been
Me
And no amount of fanciful words
Or clever turns of prose will
Change the fact that I have ever been
The worst part of Me
And that all who have ever dared
To show me love
Have ended up the poorer for it
So I wish to say Goodbye
To you who have loved me
To you who may have have harbored some
Thought of me in the depths of Elseness
Or otherwise; goodbye, good luck, and godspeed
You avoided a tale most tragic
By turning away from What Could Have Been
I don’t know when or how
But my tale will come to an End
And when it eventually does
I think I will smile
For then I will
Finally
Be free…

This reads like a confession spoken at the exact height of the hill where you can see every road you walked and every fire you mistook for home. What strikes hardest is the courage to stop blaming the ghosts and finally name yourself as the constant companion in the ache. There is a fierce honesty in accepting that love didn’t fail you...you failed yourself, and you know it now.

Yet even in the goodbye, there is electricity!
The idea that freedom might come not from being loved better, but from seeing clearly at last.
This is not surrender, it's awareness sharpened into flame. If this is the end you imagine, it’s not small; it's earned, lucid, and burning with truth.

And it's honestly thrilling to know you still come here!
How that alone opens a door to nostalgia -- the golden days here at the café, the shared silences and exchanges, our friendship woven in with all the rest.

Reading you again carries that same warmth and charge, a reminder that some fires don't just burn --
they illuminate!

All of us had asked the below words my friend.
(I don’t know when or how
But my tale will come to an End
And when it eventually does
I think I will smile
For then I will
Finally
Be free…)
Being free. Not to easy to do and we must. Powerful and worthwhile poetry my friend. I did enjoy.

I am entranced by your words, and with the way this poem flowed and danced, entwined with tendrils of dark flames. I've felt and have penned these same thoughts one too many times, but I always somehow find myself coming face to face with it again and again. This time round, it's in a poem that has spoken to my soul. Thank you for writing and sharing~

There were some things aren't for us, either it was our choice or not, wether we hold on to it or not. Eventually it will be a lesson for us to live on and learn to survive from the ashes that was left.

Great seeing you writing again, my friend.

They say you must love and respect yourself first before you ever get involved with anyone. Otherwise your faults and lack of confidence will eventually show. :)
