Waiting For The House To Scream

Waiting For The House To Scream

A Poem by Carl

I pray these eggshells
Will carry my weight
As this road
I’ve chosen to take
Sitting here
As in a dream
Waiting for the house
To scream

Those brutal hands
The unseen marks
Those whispered threats
Ignite the sparks
The coffee table
That was never clean
Waiting for the house
To scream

The key in the latch
The drunken name
The bulk of the man
That filled the frame
The accusations
That went unseen
Waiting for the house
To scream

The tone of voice
As I lived in fear
And how time stopped
When you were near
The broken glass
The shattered dreams
Is it any wonder
That this house screams

But not today

There comes a point
As there often will
When you realise
You need to heal
And lay aside
All that you dreamed
It’s time to cleanse
The house that screamed

With the windows open
To let in the light
Every room
Will be clean and bright
Every thought of you
Will be washed away
This house wont be
Screaming today

For you are not here
To threaten me
No shadow on the wall
That I can see
No key in the latch
As I cowered in fear
No tone of voice
That I can hear

For you are not here
As the future calls
No longer part of its fabric
No longer within its walls
And I know that times a healer
And talking can ease the pain
But I know as long as I am here
This house will never scream again
