The Government Office

The Government Office

A Poem by Cassie
"

Writers block volume 2

"

I once went to a government office.
Waited until the next day.
Not figuratively. Literally.
Time just gave up in that room.

They say those places teach you patience.
I say they teach you how to question your entire existence.
But fine"lesson learned. Slowly. Bitterly.

Anyway, turns out I’m curing my writer’s block.
One awkward sentence at a time.
Progress is progress, right?
I can now confidently say:
patience pays.
Not much, but it pays.

It’s like working out"
you show up expecting a transformation,
but mostly you just sweat and wonder why you’re not Beyoncé yet.
Still, consistency does something.

Same with writing.
Same with life.
You show up.
You wait.
You try not to delete everything in a fit of existential despair.

And eventually"
the block starts to crack.
Ideas trickle out.
Then pour.
Then overflow.

Like a stream of water that just realized it’s late to a meeting.

yes things are okay. The girls are so so grown and so tall.
"Ideas trickle out." Even one line at a time counts. I've been experiencing this very thing myself. Just have to keep chipping away at the cracks til the dam breaks. Great write.

Thank you Travis. Step by step and all the cracks will chip away
And so it begins ... a crack ... a trickle and soon the deluge. Welcome back Cassie, good to see you.

Your poem is an apt description of both writer's block and the inspiration that ends it.

I don't know but I believe that most of the people in those offices struggle as badly as we do.

We are from the government and we're here to help.

Good one.

well said ... love your "...government office" Cassie ... we can all relate. tho i have not had the pleasure of that office as such but have waited plenty enough at the doctors' office, on the phone, waiting to talk to a human ... being looped back to the beginning .. try again ... looped and looped until finally it says to me ... sorry we can't help with that and hangs up ... rrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr! glad you are finding a very creative way to break the block ... so unique!
luv and grace dear friend,
E.

:) ....................
I've never been in a government office but I do know what waiting is very well. My writers block seems to be a permanent wall. Every now and again I get a trickle of ideas through the small cracks, but otherwise....I'm still waiting.

Nice one Cassie.
