If I knew

If I knew

A Poem by Coyote Poetry
"

If we knew the future. Would we have done things differently?

"
                          If I knew

If I knew yesterday was our last day together, was the last kiss we shared.
If I knew I would never embrace you again. I would of held you tighter.
I would have said more tender words and took a lasting picture for my heart and mind.

I didn't know love was fragile, promises easily forgotten. I didn't know love would wither
away. I didn't know love was like cut red roses. Given freely and slowly dying becoming
dust and memory.

I believed in the elixir of the sweet kiss and  I believed in the love words that stirred my heart and hope.
I didn't know absence create forgetfulness.

I didn't know thriving love was held on by a simple thread. Honored by few who bestowed love as
honored and blessed.

Today If I have known. I would of been kinder and held tighter to kind woman. I would have never left you.
Too late for sweet dreams and promises forgotten.
IF I knew. I would have never allowed you to leave my life.

isn't it strange and curious that regret is so much linked to the past, and we are always advised to look forward and "let the dead past bury the dead"? to me, personally, regret is the cup of hemlock, and we all are like Socrates. we end up drinking it. i don't have faith in those who brag of never having regrets.

this poem reminds me of a very personal incidence. if i knew what would happen then, what has happened now, i would perhaps not done anything different, or perhaps i would have. all i know, all i can say is that regret never comes alone, it is clubbed with wistfulness...if only...if only we had the sands of time...if only...:)

This is how I feel every day... very personal.
If we could just go back to that last day with someone and not allow anything to go wrong..
Thanks for sharing.

All of feel this way. Regret does make us wiser. Thank you for reading and the comment.
We must let go if we are to travel on to other domains. Drop the line, and let the balloon rise and toss in the wind. Every beautiful event is locked away in a little temporal treasure chest to be added to all the other beautiful events that are yet to be. When one door closes, ten others open. Life is all about moving on down the path behind the next chosen door. It’s all about adventure, and mystery.

You're welcome.
Regret is the only thing left to us when find out that what/who we need is never beside us anymore.
"If I only knew..."
So for me, enjoy life. Just love and love and nothing more...no matter what.

Relevant in many ways.

You're welcome.
Beautiful, yet sad. It's very well written and stirs the emotions we all share deep in our heart. But I must ask, is this a personal experience or something you just wrote? If it is too personal there is no need to answer. I was just curious.

Regrets are like wounds; even when healed they leave behind scars. Some say they have no regrets. I can not begin to count my own. But the thing about scar tissue...the wound is healed but the tissue is either very sensitive or numb. I'd rather be sensitive than numb. I enjoyed your poem.

We can't go against fate, my friend. If she was supposed to leave, there's nothing you could do. I can definitely understand what you're talking about, though. It's always hard to say farewell.
