The blue dress

The blue dress

A Poem by Coyote Poetry
"

Harry Chapin song took me to good places and memories.

"

                          The blue dress

I found you sitting alone at your family party. Your once fiery hazel eyes grey with sadness. I asked you. How are your dear Linda? You are still so beautiful. I have never forgotten you. You were one wish I couldn't have.

Dear Linda smiled and she whispered. "I'm sorry Johnnie. You found me at the wrong time. I was swimming in the harvest of lost. You tried to find love in the narrow road of fear and sadness. I did recover and I tried to find you. I learn you joined wars and escape the country. I wished I did. I still think of you. You took me on 500 miles road trips to Lake Superior. I loved the memory of us dancing and free-climbing the water falls in Iron Mountain. You tried to make me laugh. You were a lover and I was cold and masquerading a life."

I embraced her and I told her. "Love is a bloody thief. Love need two people on the same road and wanting the same things. I knew you were fragile and weak. I knew I saw only glimpse of emotion and need. I know the flaws of broken heart and closed doors. I stilled loved you. I still remember touching your sun-kissed skin and perfect curves leading to sad smile. We shredded our clothing and neither of us showed real skin and blood."

Dear Linda smiled and she told me. " I never forgot your kindness. I wanted you to return. You gave me a letter with needed money for me to find release, then you never returned. I waited for months. I heard you joined the service and went to Iraq. I prayed for you to be safe and sound. I did find someone. He reminded me of you. I hope you found some joy and happiness?

I kissed her lips and I whispered. "lady blue, life isn't fair, but life is fair. You get what you deserve. Men who drift through life holding on to very little. Sing lullaby of things gone bye and are left with dreams, muses missed and with the understanding. We decide our ending dear Linda. I still remember you dancing in the blue dress at the Iron Mountain dance hall. I remember how you made my Sundays worthwhile. I did leave you. I knew. You needed more than a wandering soul.""

Small tears fell from her eyes and she stood-up and kissed my forehead. She whispered. "You are a good liar dear Johnnie. I was lady blue and you gave me hope and laughter. I'm sorry when you left me. I knew the gift of freedom was for me and you. I believed you knew. Can't raise the dead, but you did. I learn I loved you and the kindness you shared, allowed you to walk away."

I hugged her and she walked away. I knew. Past is gone, life is now. I did a silence prayer. Linda did okay.

You are right my friend and thank you for reading and the comment.
The sadness within this piece breaks my part and resonates in my soul! I love the twinkle of hope that leaps out towards the end. The imagery is brilliant. Nicely penned.

Thank you Briana. I appreciate the comment.
Such deep meaning to lost love and the pain of letting someone go when you hate to leave them a second time. Your words are deep and full of life.

This is good. Peace come with time.
Very sorrowful write. Very philosophical too. You did right by letting her go. It was the most selfless thing you did than to string her along, taking her on a wandering ride with no parking lot in sight. At least you met again to get closure, both of you. It brings some appeasement to the heart.
