Soldier of fortune

Soldier of fortune

A Poem by Coyote Poetry

Just words

"
                                  Soldier of fortune
-------------------------------------------------------------

Painted memories on my skin, my mind and my heart. Some pain and some sweet.
I won more than I have lost.
I have killed for money, I play a b*****d for the rich and I tried to seek even.
Soldier, slave and human being.
I have played all.

I pray my actions of love overtake my sins. I would tell you.
Live for love, don't touch the guns and pray for peace.

No salvation for men who obeyed the devil.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
White lies, black lies.
Words whispered at the Devil's hour of midnight.
Wandering and seeker of the siren's kisses.
Men who play the soldier of fortune.
Men who stand with rifle in foreign land.
He isn't the savior.
He is the killer of kindness.
Soldiers are not the tools of peace.
They are the tools of death.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Recollection.
Longing.
Craving.
Reckless.
Ending.
Sadness.

NOT just words, John. This poem, your creation from mind and heart, weeps. You did what you had to do and have spent your life since remembering and valueing the good moments, tried hard with heart and conscience to pay penance for the past. Time comes when one forgives self. Your words are immensely powerful even though your spirit seems much diluted.

'Men who stand with rifle in foreign land. ~ He isn't the savior. ~ He is the killer of kindness.' The Lord understands what supposed duty entails.

Soldiers don't ask questions.
They don't have to.
They may moralize at the end of any battle.
But in reality, as soon as that rifle is in your hand, you only have one objective, to kill.
Politicians always fail to understand this. Probably why soldiers need to take their lawyer onto the battlefield to protect themselves from future lawsuits.

Especially when they get the bill.
Your words are very moving.
I cannot pretend to understand how it feels.
I keep hearing about some things being a necessary evil.
To be the instrument of such acts for the greater good.
But whose greater good?
Powerful words that spark much thought and debate.
