                             The last chance motel

Summer Texas night, cold drink and no-place to go. Michigan dreamer, drinking his Long Island teas and writing into a journal.

"Song of my father,
songs of the long highways,
more goodbye songs than hello.

Pretty memories don't bring joy no-more,
shallow man broke a angel heart and
he learned.
The Iron Mountain girl was right.
She told him. You will miss me more than today.
My lasting kisses will burn your heart and your soul.
You will wish for me when the night is cold and lonely."

He watched the pretty Texas girls dance at midnight hours. The midnight hours is when the last people on earth must decide to go home alone or seek a companion to fulfill needs of the skin, needs of the flesh.

Pretty Texas girl requested a dance and he accepted. The lingering dance expand to the slow dances and the sweet girl whispered. "Soldier, soldier. Alone on a Texas Friday night. A Texas sin. You and I, had found this place often. You and I had laid in beds of nails and fire. Wanting to stay and go in the same second. You love the song and I love to hear your voice, telling me. I am beautiful and sweet. Do we fear the morning faces or are we just, thieves in the night?"

He told her. You are sweeter than the September apples and so damn pretty. Maybe we fear what we hide? Maybe we are hiding devils and demons? Maybe we fear the connection? Fear the heartbreak that may come?

In the Belton, Texas motel. Two people lay bare to the darkness, soldier rested in the lap of kind woman. She caressed his face and she sang to him.

"Please look at me,
please kiss my face,
please kiss my neck and my shoulders,
draw on my skin with your fingers and kiss.
Make me feel.
I am alive and I am the only one.
Please read my face,
please read my scars,
please show me,
I am more alive than dead."

The soldiers pick-up the Texas girl.
They danced to the radio playing lowly.
Bare skin against bare skin.
Warm lips against warm lips.
He told her.
Please allow me to see your morning face,
let's eat bacon and eggs at your house.
Please allow me in.
I need to know you.

She laughed at his words and she whispered.
"You are so brave. If you saw my real face, would you love me?"

He told her. I have loved you for a thousand days dear Sara.
Maybe I was more afraid than you? You and I, been looking for idyllic place.
Maybe we had known her and we were blinded by the fear of disappointment.

The morning light came and two people stayed.
Maybe were wishing or needed to do the dance of love.

You sorta want to make a short film out of this Texas night ...pick up...a girl ..the SPJST"S ..tiny cantina and a jack rabbit..all black and white in the back bed of an of old snake skin riddled F-150 ...the Milky way dripping into a fresh bottle ..long neck and a soldier trying to make peace with what must happen next with love..a slower frame of course in the sweatiest movie ever made..lol.
I read this like nine times and tried to come to some other place..And maybe that's the place you were wanting to take us...Texas like the great ebb in the river called America..the King's Highway...so many days just to get through. It's great writing for writing sake and if you let it haunt you long enough you'll swear you just saw Elvis leaving a rodeo with the biggest belt buckle you ever saw. Thanks for taking me back Coyote...I still hear them pups yelping like banshees when the sun has set and anything is possible in a Texas night.

Thank you Dawn. Texas was alive and well for a young soldier once.
