Thankfulness

Once I wanted everything. Today I have enough.
Once I was the gin, sin and traveling man.
I wanted to drink a shot of whiskey in a 100 countries and
put my feet in every sea.

Now I have dear Michigan,
the great lakes and my grandchildren near.

I have the laughter of my grandchildren,
beach days and quiet life.

The great wealth of a lucky man.

I think it could be strengthened by not just listing what you used to want and what you have now but by inserting WHO you ARE into it, your character...maybe poetry/prose instead of straight on poetry, or else sheer brilliance in distilling your unique character in the context of poetry. Give it a try ;)
