Memorial day poetry- Soldier on

A Poem by Coyote Poetry
"

Happy Memorial day. May 31.

"

Soldier on....

(May-day poetry twenty-six)

Memorial day is coming and I will put coins on the fallen soldiers grave stone.

In the early morning before the people come on Memorial day.

I will burn white sage for them, lost too soon in old and new wars.

I will stand with other soldiers, old and young.

We will discuss our missed friends and the good days we had.

The WW2 vet will tell me.

“Soldier on Johnnie,

we must live for our friends,

who cannot.

We must ensure they are not forgotten.”

I hope the people of the USA understand.

Freedom isn’t free, it cost spenty.

Please don’t give freedom away without a fight.

There seems to be an ongoing endeavor to belittle veterans ... mostly from those on the left who can't seem to understand where their rights to protest came from. It doesn't matter which side of the border you live on ... Canada has forgotten its history by insisting we are a nation of "peacekeepers".
My grandfather at Vimy and Passchendaele and my father in the Italian Campaign may have begged to differ.

On this Memorial Day John ...reflect ... as we all should, on those who put lives on the line and do to this day.
Thank you for your service my friend.
