The whiskey and the beer song.

A Poem by Coyote Poetry
"Easy to hide in the wrong things."

The whiskey and the beer song…

A whiskey and a beer was the song we sang to each other.

We found each other hiding in a corner in a  dark Austin tavern. We fell together.

Not to celebrate life but to celebrate death.

She told me. “I was a beauty once and many desire my attention.”

I kissed her whiskey soaked lips. Told her. ” Beauty is one more bloody thing to blind us from the truth.

Now we are ugly with disappointment. It don’t matter, beauty isn’t what we need now.”

I ordered a pint of good English lager and a double shot of Jack Daniels.

We sat together daily. Two strangers with no place to go. Somehow misery bring two angry people together.

Somehow we become one for a time. Trying to rebirth the desire for flesh and the mind.

Even the flesh become less needy with no hope and dreams. I wrapped my arms around her in the late nights.

Trying to give comfort to someone fighting dead memories, old ghosts and old pain.

I awoke up early in the morning and I released her and I made some morning coffee.

I poured the coffee into my cup. I added some Johnny Walker to give the coffee strength and taste.

She awake. Her tire eyes looking at me needing a kind voice and coffee.

I poured her a cup of coffee and added some whiskey. I told her. “We will be alright.”

Two poor souls reaching out for company...drinking down their misery....no real love anymore, that's done with, most importantly the need for each other's life of nothingness. But together, everything will be alright. this is the hope in this tale.

Older, but not dead. Looks can fade, but people are still the same inside. Love and romance need not die a a specific age. There is much compassion in your words, John. Good one. Lydi**

Thank you dear Lydia. I agree my friend.
Late nights in taverns can get depressing, especially if you believe it's all downhill from here. Sometimes in such situations, lonely souls can give each other support. Sometimes.

Gritty and down to earth. It conveys its thought and leads to its ending with some expectation that things will continue the same. I liked it.

A lot of poems I've been reading lately deal with misery and unlived dreams. It's nice when you have something larger in life that keeps you going no doubt.

You are so welcome.
Painkiller works for a little while then it wears off leaving a headache and a fiery gut. The only thing I've known to help cope with misery is work. I pour myself into some chore that distracts better than the whiskey and that way, at least I accomplish something. When I'm worn out from the work, I sleep. I'd never put whiskey in coffee though. I enjoyed this write. It was atmospheric and tinged with hope.
