Why do we write, whey do you paint?

Why do we write, whey do you paint?

A Poem by Coyote Poetry
"

April is poetry month. This is new poem number thirty.

"

Why do we write? Why do we paint? Why do we create?

The poet don’t cry. He write the misery of life to paper. He write about days of joy.

He wrote about memories and kisses. Some say. Poets love words more than love.

I adore the artist. With tender fingers, they create vision of places, visions of faces and

visions of twisted thoughts. They say. Painters are madmen, madwomen. They can

see too much in everything.

Us who love to write. We love to fall into the folly of life. Poets love to paint words to

create tears, to create laughter and remind us. Live more, dance more and drink more.

I believe we need the writers, we need the poets and we need the artist. They create

left-over memories. We need to remember.

My favorite are the war poets, writers who write of the ugliness of war. We need these

memories. Maybe we won’t repeat them?

very relaxed delivery, not forced, not labored, just stated cleanly - In a book that impressed me greatly the author said we are not only creations but creators thus we cannot help but do what we do. I know there is an up side and also downsides to our creativity. If we will allow, artists of all mediums serve to remind us of who and what we are and what we have done and can do both sides of the coin, good and ill. - nicely done - carl

There’s a tender wisdom in this, a truth that hums beneath the words. You’ve written what every creator feels but rarely says aloud..that art is both burden and balm. I love how you braid poetry and painting together, how both become acts of remembering. “They create left-over memories” it’s so beautifully true. Like a soft vow to keep feeling, to keep making meaning from the ache.

I agree dear Roma. We will become left over memories. Better to write to the paper. Thank you, dear .. read more
although i am very skeptical about us learning from past mistakes (as you are, hence the "?") i do agree that we need art and artists in a world obsessed with productivity, efficiency, and profit. they (the artists) are the counterbalance to keep the world from going off track completely.

You really have a way of making the ordinary feel sacred. That line, "They create left-over memories," hits like a quiet truth. It's not just poetic; it's a reminder that what we preserve through art can echo long after we're gone. This piece made me pause and reflect. What a powerful way of describing it. Your voice/writing carries wisdom, gentleness, and purpose, and I am grateful to have stumbled into your work. I'll be thinking about this one for a while.

Its a good read, thank you.
This is a beautifully contemplative piece about the essential role of artists and writers. You always have this lovely, conversational tone that feels like sitting with a wise friend who's thinking out loud about life's bigger questions. Some of my works have been inspired by this styling of yours.

I love how you frame artists and poets not as separate from life, but as essential translators of human experience: "The poet don't cry. He write the misery of life to paper." There's something profound about that - how writers transform their thoughts into something that can be shared and understood.

The line "Some say. Poets love words more than love" is particularly striking - it captures that tension artists often feel between living life and documenting it, between experiencing and creating.

The observation about painters being able to "see too much in everything" resonates deeply. That's exactly what artists do - they notice what others miss, feel what others might overlook.

But what I find most moving is the ending about war poets and the hope that "Maybe we won't repeat them?" There's this beautiful faith in art's power to serve as collective memory, to bear witness in ways that might actually change us.

The phrase "left-over memories" is particularly poetic - suggesting that art preserves what might otherwise be lost, creates a kind of emotional archaeology for future generations.

This feels like a love letter to all the artists who document both beauty and ugliness, helping the rest of us remember what it means to be human.

What would the world be without poets? They help us see beyond the façade into reality. That touches our inner being on all levels, and we reciprocate. And Coyote Poetry is what your poetry gives life.

I agree, coyote.
Everything has a song to sing. It'd be an aweful thing to stay 'shut up', defying nature, as it were. 🙏
