Maggie Elizabeth..

Maggie Elizabeth..

A Poem by Coyote Poetry
"

I was writing in my dreams again.

"

Dear Maggie..

( Dream writing again.)

She was my sea dancer, she was a kind lover.

Now, she is a lasting memory, and she is tattoos on my mind.

I was being loco, drinking and trying to find death.

She took my hand in the late Winter of 1992 and she told me.

Death can wait and the sea is a great storm today.

We will rent two wet-suits and boogie board the Pacific.

We will seek the largest waves and we shall dance with the sea.

She kissed me once, she kissed me twice and she put my hands to her breasts.

She told me. The heart is alive and we must live.

Today we will suicide board the great sea.

The wind was kicking, the Pacific was dancing when we entered the sea.

Took 20 minutes to get to the large waves.

We were connected by a 12 foot rope and we danced with the ocean.

I watched the sea and I watched her.

She was a free-woman who did what she wanted and

I told the sea, I told the night.

Thank you for Maggie Elizabeth.

We road the waves into the Monterey Bay sand.

We sat and drink the Black Velvet whiskey. We had what we needed.

I remember warm and sweet kisses,

us entering into the dance of two seeking peace, not greed.

She told me often. We need more friends than lovers.

Tonight I am a old man and I need the sea, I need Maggie Elizabeth.

If I could. I would dance in the Winter storm and I would pray.

Maggie Elizabeth found happiness.

Amazing. Wow. Thank you for sharing something so personal and filled with emotional weight. Your memories of Maggie Elzabeth came alive through the waves, the winter storm, and the quiet moments that followed. It is so clear how deeply she touched your life, and I felt the gratitude in every line. That Kind of connection, where someone reminds you to truly live-stays echoed in the soul!

I hope you keep writing and honoring stories like these. They matter.

Coyote, this is a deeply moving recounting of love, freedom, and the wildness of memory. Maggie Elizabeth comes alive here..not just as a person, but as a force of nature, a spirit who teaches resilience, joy, and the imperative to truly live. I love how the sea becomes both stage and metaphor, carrying risk, exhilaration, and intimacy. Your poem makes me feel the wind, the waves, and the heartbeat of that winter storm; it’s a dance I could step into, tethered by trust and daring. There’s a rare honesty here, both tender and untamed, and it lingers long after the last line.

Thank you, dear Roma. I need a year near the sea. I appreciate the comment.
People who live in the moment and do things on the spur of the moment are very special. No thought of danger or "what if" crosses their minds. Boogie boarding in the Pacific....wow! Maggie Elizabeth truly left her footprints on your heart. Such a romantic write, John. Wonderful. Lydi**

Great story or dream John, dancing the waves together is a act of romance and adventure that both of you will remember… lots of vivid descriptions of the sea, the waves…” we rode the waves into Monterey Bay”… and don’t forget the whiskey… nice!
