just a passing thought

Which is better?

a quick and sudden death 

One where, 

although the pain isn’t long, 

the pain of not seeing 

the faces you loved and cherished 

hits harder

One where everything is left unsaid, 

relations severed, 

regrets unkempt. 

Like when we skip past episodes 

to see the end quicker.

Or try to blow on the candle flame

to see how long it can flicker.

Or a slow and gradual one

One where the pain comes on slowly, 

like the effect of a poisoned candy.

The goodbyes seem repeated, 

good wishes copy pasted,

while we wait for the day we get wasted.

One where our doorways grow cold,

and grief becomes an exhausting companion.

Like when someone’s just waiting 

for the leaves to change colour,

Or for the melodrama to be over.

I wonder which is better?

Or maybe it would be better 

if we got to choose? 

Or maybe not, 

it’s better as a surprise, 

not an option.

We’d think about it a lot,

 and still end up choosing the wrong one.

We don't know how and when we will all die. I can't say for everyone but for me I want a simple death, a painless one because death is something we don't want. I read a book named " Book thief" One of my favorite books. It also shows the grief of one's life by death itself. Your poem just remind me of that book. Brilliantly written.
