Listening to Strauss

Listening to Strauss

A Poem by Charles Person

Paint the walls red
using tint or blood
May pleasure or madness make you dance
The day ends, death always wins
Life always knocks us down
And our own life is far too short
For us not to spend our blood

You never owned anything
I must say, not even your wills
To get insane is not a sin
If it feels like it is the best move
So paint the walls with your blood
Or spit your hatred on the floor
Before the rage or the drunkenness or the song
Is over

Forget the guilt you think you must feel
Because life will always be hard
Even if you make no mistake

And in the end death always wins
And our own life is far too short
Not to be wasted with these little things
