The Land BeyondA Poem by Cherrie L Bill
Hair pin curves, hugging pines,
uncover a map lost in my mind. The brush-harbor church barely holds, but within these borders its frame work stands bold. The steep grade sign makes me smile, on Big Bear Bend the landmark of a child. A gate locked tight keeps me out. A tiny place no bigger than a sprout. -with the smell - of baking bread Upon that soil I now tread. This land beyond is a teeny place. And with the magic of time, my memory awakes. An open door lets me in and the room beyond is filled with old friends. My old collie dog that shared my life. My Grand and Pop (both bigger than life). My mom and my dad, who I lost long past. Truth be told I don’t think I can come back. But like the waking of a dream, each thing fades; With this lingering truth that remains. the woman, I see, was made by these. © 2021 Cherrie L BillReviews
