There is a place called The Trinity Alps, a bit north of Redding... it is one of the most underrated places in the country. And it's basically empty of people for the most part, no one really knows about this place. If you ever find yourself in need of a relatively tame adventure, I suggest exploring that area. Google search some pictures of the trinity alps, you'll see what I mean.
