Waves of Light

Softly spun light of dawn
gentle in its whites, and yellows,
fringed with morning blush.
With eyes closed I let the light
loosely wrap me.
As I surrender to this new day.
The song of the surf greets me.
As waves of light give me a promise of a tempered day with Autumn easy on its heels.

I just read of your move. I was wondering where you live as I picked two poems to read and they both embraced the sound of surf. My favorite line: “As I surrender to this new day.” At first reading it didn’t catch my attention but then I got hung up on the word surrender, wondering what it means to you, what it might mean to other readers. I know people that leap into the day, while I hang back, will try to return to sleep, if not stay in bed writing, reading, I guess negotiating a slow surrender to the new day.

I use to leap into action. However since I’ve retired I have an laid-back approach. Coffee -prayer and tai chi with my morning ☀️

I think of Brian Wilson of the Beach Boys when I read this.
He was a gentle spirit, great songwriter and technician in the studio.
and all of the surfing music they did...Dennis Wilson was actually the only Beach Boy who surfed...
But i think of how Brian's melodies could wrap around the listener.

Surfing 🏄 was never in my wheelhouse. But I do love the water. The sound of the waves are peaceful.
I'm so glad you enjoyed it too. I might have to break out some of their songs
