The Man That WasA Story by CherrieI slow my stride to a stop as I stare through the neon lit window. I spy the man I was sipping from a glass. Three hundred days plus one without a drink and just the sight of it makes my mouth water and yearn for a drag. Out of instinct I reach in my pocket for a lighter but all I find there is a penny. The penny my daughter gave me. She told me of the promise that this penny holds. A promise of hope and of a new dad, a sober dad and if /when I weaken I am to toss that penny in my glass and if I can drown her hope then I deserve that drink. The penny makes me smile and puts a kick in my stride as one more time I turn the corner on the man that I was. © 2011 CherrieReviews
