The Little Lost BearsA Story by CookieCubs get lost in the forest and make unlikely friends
Once upon a time, there were three littlebears. Their names were Billy, Jacob andSummer. They live in the forest next to abeautiful stream where they swam, playedand laughed every day. There was nothingthey loved more than running around theirbig yard and playing carefree. Jacob andSummer loved to go to the edge of the forestbeside their home and pick berries and nuts.Sometimes they would even get lucky andfind a hive full of honey.
Billy was the oldest and it fell to him to takecare of his brother and sister. They were stilljust little bears and the forest could be a darkand scary place. He always watched overthem. He warned them never to go into theforest. One day Billy decided it would be ok if hewent fishing down by the stream. Nothingbad could happen? He would be close andcould hear his brother and sister if anythingwent wrong. Billy grabbed his fishing poleand walked to the stream. He sat down by alarge stump at the waters edge and beganfishing. Immediately he began to catch onefish after another. He had never seenanything like it. He became so preoccupiedcatching so many fish, he forgot to listen forthe sounds of his brother and sister. Jacob and Summer were only little bears butthey both had the heart of a fully growngrizzly. They ran around the yard playing, looking for berries and just being kids. Theyhad gotten so preoccupied while playing theydidn’t realize they had wandered out of theyard and far off the path. They foundthemselves deep in a part of the woods theydidn’t recognize. They were lost. Summerbegan to cry. She was scared but Jacob, being the big brother, took her hand and toldher not to be afraid. “It’ll be ok sis. We can’tbe very far from home. Billy will find us. Iknow it.” As the two little bears sat at the base of a bigoak tree, Summer tried to hold back hertears. Even though Jacob was very scaredhimself, he was brave, and hid it from his littlesister. She was already scared enough. Asthey sat there, hoping Billy would find themsoon, they saw something they had neverseen before. A tiny little person with wingsbegan to fly around the big oak and cameright up to them. Looking in amazement,Jacob and Summer saw five more. “What areyou?” Summer asked with wonder in hereyes. “I’ve never seen anyone like you in theforest before.” “We’re fairies.” said one of the tiny creatures.“We live in the forest just like you. We sawyou were lost and we wanted to tell you thateverything will be ok. We wouldn’t letanything happen to little bears.” Hearing this,Jacob and Summer let out a sigh of relief. They weren’t scared anymore and could relaxfor the first time since they realized theywere lost. After a very successful day of fishing Billypacked his pole and all the fish he hadcaught. He then headed home. When he gotto the house he called for his little brotherand sister.. “Jacob! Summer! Where are you?”He yelled. When he didn’t hear a reply, hisheart sank. A jolt of fear shot through hisbody. He searched everywhere he couldthink of. Under the stairs. Behind thefurniture. All the places the little bears wouldhide and play. They were nowhere to befound. He stopped, took a deep breath andrationally thought of all the places they couldbe. He eliminated possibilities one by oneuntil he concluded they must have wanderedinto the forest while playing. The forest was adangerous place and he was very worried.Billy grabbed a few items he thought hemight need. Water, medical supplies, then hebegan walking towards the forest. Mean while, The fairies had been helpingJacob and Summer find berries and nuts toeat. They played games, laughed and sanguntil the little bears forgot all about theirworries. Billy had been searching everywherefor them. He breathed a sigh of relief whenhe heard their laughter in the direction of thebig oak tree. He followed the sound of theirlaughter and found them playing safely onthe ground without a care in the world.“There you are!” He exclaimed, “ I’ve beenterribly worried about you! I’ve been trying tofind you for hours. I’m so glad you’re ok” Hesaid in a gentle voice. “Just please don’twander off into the forest again. It’s notsafe…Now let’s go home.” “But what aboutour friends?” Jacob and Summer asked.“Who are you talking about?” Billy said,“There’s no one else here in the woods. It’sjust us.” Fairies are very elusive and perceptivecreatures. As soon as they saw Billy, theyslipped away unseen and hid in the forest.Summer tried to explain, “They said theywere fairies! They helped us find berries toeat and we were playing together before youcame and found us.” Billy laughed and said ina tone of disbelief, “You guys have a greatimagination. They probably had to go homebefore it gets dark. That’s what we should dotoo. We don’t want to be here after dark.”.“It’s true!” Jacob and Summer insisted. Asthey walked home, Jacob and Summer begantelling Billy everything that had happened. Allabout the fairies, and everything about theiradventure. After they returned home, Jacob andSummer would watch out their window, hoping that the fairies would come to playwith them. Then, on a beautiful summer day,the little bears looked out their window andsaw the fairies flying across the yard. Theyhad come to see their new friends. It turnsout, the fairies had so much fun before, theywanted to come and play some more. Thefairies and the little bears quickly becamebest friends and everyday after that, theywould play, sing and dance. Billy of course was stunned. He was incomplete disbelief at the sight of the fairies. He had never seen such amazing creaturesbefore. Now, however, Billy knew it wasn’tjust Jacob and Summer’s wild imaginationsthat had fooled them. They had been tellingthe truth all along. And from that day on, they all lived happilyever after!
